25 Rarest Animals living On The Planet
The low population of these rare animals is primarily due to habitat loss, hunting, or accidental death caused by human activities. While environmentalists have successfully bred some of these rare animals on the Earth, others are not so lucky and are on the brink of extinction. Hopefully, with more awareness and understanding, including the critical information on this list, we can see some of these rare animals recover in the future.
Here are the 25 Rarest Animals living in the World:
1) Cuban Greater Funnel-Eared Bat
Due to forest destruction and cave modification, it is estimated that there are only 100 remaining in Cueva La Barca, Cuba.
2) Javan Rhino
Formerly found throughout Southeast Asia, there are only between 58 and 67 remaining, all within Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia.
3) Red-Crested Tree Rat
Residing in the forests of Colombia, this small animal was thought to be extinct in 1898. On the 4th of May 2011 they were rediscovered by volunteers at El Dorado Nature Reserve, a protected area of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
4) Common Sawfish
The Common Sawfish has become not-so-common and the endangered species is found mostly in the oceans of Northern Australia. In 2018, there were only 10 confirmed Sawfish sightings in the entire country.
5) Hirola
Also known as the Hartebeest or Hunter's antelope, these antelopes are found along the Kenya-Somalia border with no formal protection. The current population is estimated at less than 500 in the wild. The highest numbers are in Ijara and Garissa County, Kenya.
6) Red River Giant Softshell Turtle
Also known as Yantze giant softshell turtle. There are only three living individuals known, one in China (captive) and two in Vietnam (wild), following the deaths of a wild individual in Vietnam in January 2016 and a captive individual in China in 2019, and it is listed as critically endangered in the IUCN* Red List.

7) Vaquita
Found off the coasts of California and Mexico, these are the smallest dolphins in the World. As per Scientific Research there were only about 60 left in 2015, the acoustic data mean there were only about 30 left in 2016.

Also called the “Faberge egg” of tortoises by some people. They are natives of South Africa's Western Cape, and are one of the World's most striking tortoise species and World’s most endangered reptiles, having strength of less than 1,000 in the wild.

As per 2018 population assessment, an estimated 150-700 mature individuals are living in Brazil.
11) Nelson’s Small-Eared Shrew
Once thought extinct, this little creature have been recently rediscovered in very small numbers which are still suffering from habitat loss due to logging and agriculture. They live in high altitudes on the side of an inactive volcano, Eastern Mexico.
12) Hainan Gibbon
Hunted for its horn, there are only about 80 Sumatran Rhinos left in Malaysia and Indonesia, and efforts are now being invested in captive breeding in an attempt to boost the population.
18) Dusky Gopher Frog
They live in a threatened habitat of south- and central eastern Madagascar due to mining and illegal logging. There are about 500 individuals left in the wild.

Great article Akshat. It is a shame that these creatures have to suffer the consequences of our actions. Their habitat is being destroyed at a very large scale and if we do not act soon, we are going to lose them and would just read about their existence in articles like these. Thanks for sharing🙂.
